Mr. Crawford's Cabinet Meeting

Objective: To have students research and involve themselves with the development of government through the executive department.

I. Students will work with a partner and research one of the departments in the cabinet.
A. The Cabinet includes: Secretaries of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Labor, State, Transportation, Treasury, and Veterans Affairs, as well as the Attorney General.

B. Students will prepare for the 1st part of the Cabinet meeting by creating a Keynote over their department. The keynote should include the following: description about the department(include ALL parts under the department) , who is in charge, where they are located, Top 5 budget expenses, problems that you can see in the department, and a real life source that could connect you to the department (ex: Alliant Energy connects you to the Department of Energy).
1. Students will present these keynotes at 1st Cabinet meeting

C. Part 2 -Problem Solving (debate)
1. Students will present a budget proposal to the President at the Cabinet meeting. In this scenario, the President needs to hand out One Trillion dollars between all departments. Students will present their budgets and be in competition with the other departments for money.
2. Students will be given a "real life scenario" to deal with through their department. For example: China wants to put a import tax on products coming from the United States. How would your department deal with the scenario, would you need to talk to other departments.
